We had the pleasure of spending a couple of nights at The Great House. Sheila and Bruce were fantastic hosts and full of local knowledge and information and couldn't do enough for us. You'd be happy staying in any of the 5 rooms they have to offer, all are very stylish and in keeping with the property. The food is also very good, from breakfast to bar meals, and they also do a three course evening dining experience. In the evening you can spend time in the lounge and bar. It's a lovely wood paneled room with wingback leather chairs, soft lighting and background music. I would highly recommend spending time at The Great House.

We had a fantastic time at the Great House in May 2023. Bruce and Sheila were wonderful hosts, who made us feel so welcome from the minute we arrived. The house is a fantastic record of the 17th century, and has been sympathetically restored with lovely personal touches, fitting both the period and surroundings. The food was excellent, the room was spotless and the surrounding countryside offers fantastic views. Sheila has a wealth of knowledge and recommended some lovely local walks. The Great house is in an excellent location to explore everything Exmoor and the locality has to offer. We hope to return soon!

We went with another couple for a weekend away and it was absolutely brilliant - love the house, which has clearly been restored with great passion and attention to detail, and Shelia & Bruce (and their sons) are wonderful natural hosts: nothing is too much trouble and everything done with a big smile. The bar area is wonderfully atmospheric and we ate there the first night. The food was delicious and very good value indeed. We have already re-booked!

We chose to spend our honeymoon here - after our wedding in London on 5th August - the aim being complete and utter relaxation. Mission accomplished! Stunning building that Sheila and Bruce have put their all into. Felt at home straight away and some fantastic ‘Just Married’ touches - Thank You both. Hugely recommend this home from home and location.

Not just a luxury B&B but a Luxury Experience.. from the moment we drove into the drive to be greeted by the most gorgeous house in all its glory the sun shining down , the beautiful bunting and the most wonderful warm welcome by Sheila & Bruce who are the heart and soul of their business. We settled in to the absolutely breathtaking Luttrell Suite which is very US! With its deep green walls , the regal four poster bed and the gold leaf panelling. Every detail, every inch as perfect and beautiful as the rest. . It really is special. The food - Homemade Scrummy out of this world deliciousness , created and cooked by Sheila. The impeccable service and attention to detail by both Bruce and Sheila made the experience even more special. Being able to relax and unwind in the private hot tub with a glass of bubbly ordered from their perfectly unique stunning bar & enjoying the Exmoor air. Cooling off in the welcomed cooled down water was so refreshing too during the heatwave! It’s safe to say we have made life long friends with you both and we cannot wait to create many more memories all together & we WILL be back. Thank you so very much for what has been the best stay we have ever had. Can’t wait to see you again soon, Soph & David x

We would thoroughly recommend a stay at The Great House. The hosts are incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond to make our stay as enjoyable and relaxing as possible. The house itself has been beautifully restored, with plenty of elegance, warmth and charm. VERY comfortable bed, too! The Great House is conveniently located for exploring Exmoor.

Staying at The Great House,Timberscombe, was far closer in experience to being a house guest at a fine country pile, than simply being a customer at a B&B. The Great House is a beautiful Grade II listed house, lovingly restored and decorated with historic period features. We booked the recently renovated Luttrell Suite, which was bright, spacious and well-appointed in a luxurious English manner. The hospitality offered by the owners, Sheila & Bruce, was impeccable - friendly, solicitous and genuine, but not intrusive. In the morning a delicious breakfast is cooked to order by Sheila, while Bruce makes sure you are having everything you need. The grounds are as attractive as the house, from hideaway seating allowing you to admire the house and grounds, to the relaxing front terrace, perfect for a sundowner cocktail, mixed up by Bruce (something not to be missed!). There was an air of intimacy and history about The Great House that made our stay a memorable occasion. This is not a commercial B&B you feel you need to rush out from, it’s a home you are welcomed into. We were sad to leave and look forward to returning.

The Great House is a grand old building located in a quiet village. This guarantees a tranquil night's sleep. The location was perfect for getting to the coastline, attractions such as Dunster Castle, and sights such as Dunkery Beacon. The owners, Bruce and Sheila, are gradually doing everything up and from what they've done so far, it'll look really good. They showed us a cosy, stylish licensed bar they're just about to open, which will be a real plus. The dining room decoration is lovely and a good example of what Bruce and Sheila are aiming to do. Breakfast was very good and perfectly cooked. We really appreciated access to fresh milk in the guest fridge in the dining room. Bruce and Sheila are trying to avoid single-use plastics, which we commend; we wonder if they could consider also providing tea bags and coffee as an alternative to individually wrapped tea and coffee packs. The bedroom was very stylishly decorated with a theme of hand-painted murals featuring birds that is also seen elsewhere, such as the dining room. The bed was comfortable, there was a pair of comfy chairs, and the room has space, charm, and light, with windows on two sides. The ensuite is functional but tired, although Bruce and Sheila are gradually refurbing everything so surely the ensuite will be replaced. A TV in the room would have been welcome, even if it was reliant on WiFi rather than an aerial, although we appreciate there are limitations due to The Great House being a listed building. Bruce and Sheila were very friendly and accommodating, offering to store our bikes indoors, giving advice on local walks and destinations, and even accompanying our god children for a walk with their dog. Although we found them on Booking.com, they mentioned that it's worth contacting them directly for bookings. We'd have no hesitation whatsoever recommending The Great House or staying there again.

Me and my best friend came to Timberscombe to visit some family friends. Never stayed before but had the loveliest time. Hosts were so amazing and accommodation. We will defiantly stay every time we visit. Breakfast was lovely. Great selection. The dog was the best bit. Made us feel so welcome! And the hot chocolate! Out of this world 11/10
